Aliki Chrysochou My story

Aliki was born in the town of Limassol which is located on the coast of the beautiful island Cyprus. Aliki was exposed to the
presence of great minds from an early age. Having grown up in a family where the arts played a significant role, it was almost inevitable for her not to go down a similar path. Aliki showed great interest not only in the arts in general but particularly in music.

Dubbed a child prodigy, Aliki was able to collaborate with key musical figures (composers, poets, musicians) in Cyprus from the age of thirteen. A particularly significant turning point in her life was marked when she was signed on two consecutive commercial releases with one of the most important classical composers in the music history of Cyprus, Achilleas Lympourides and our national poet and one of the most important poets of the European Neo-classical Era, Kostas Montis.

By the time she had reached adulthood, Aliki had amassed a resume of collaborations and performances rich enough as one of an accomplished musician. Aliki was now ready and energized for moving to the U.K (she had been accepted in various music schools in the U.K) in pursuit of her musical studies at the prestigious Sheffield University.

Unfortunately, at the end of her first year of studies and whilst preparing to perform her first Operatic role in Spain she had contracted a rare form of encephalitis. After months of medical care and an exhausting feat through mental and physical disability which had impaired central communicational interaction, Aliki didn’t find herself on the road to recovery until she had started articulating extracts of musicals plays that her mother would sing to her.

At this point in time Aliki had been taken back to a place where singing became perhaps the only remedy to a dire situation where her ambition and thirst for life had considerably diminished. As romantic as it may sound, music had proved for Aliki as the main healing source for her symptoms and psychological state.

Aliki graduated from Sheffield University in the United Kingdom in 2005, with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in both piano and voice. She also holds a Pianoforte Certificate in Advanced Performance from London College of Music & Media at Thames Valley University, a Theory of Music Grade 8 from Guildhall School of Music and Drama as well as an outstanding recognition in Classical Singing Diploma Grade 8 from Trinity Guildhall of London.

As of 2008 Aliki has been living in New York City where she’s been studying at HB Studio and has been taught the Uta Hagen method. Furthermore she has been consistently studied opera and musical theater with renowned teachers and coaches such as Steven M. Crawford, one of the conductors of the Metropolitan Opera. She has studied closely with the great Mexican Tenor, Armando Mora, and has taken masterclasses with maestro PierGiorgio Del Nunzio and maestro Marco Balteri.

In her early career she has been a soloist in the Theater/Music/Dance Company, “Diastasi” in which she has performed in theaters both in Cyprus and all over Europe. She is now a member of the Cyprus Opera Organization. Whilst growing up, she was quickly noted for the uniqueness and color of her voice which led her to the winning of various major song competitions. As her confidence grew and her style developed, she performed in various countries including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Canary Islands, Greece, and the U.K. She has also performed many concerts with the National String Quartet in her homeland, Cyprus.

Aliki most recently performed as a semifinalist on Britain’s Got Talent, British television talent show competition receiving two standing ovations for her auditions from the judging panel, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden. Alisha Dixon and David Walliams. She also sang at the world premier of the song cycle “Of Night” by Alexis Leonidou at the Hellenic Cultural Theater in NYC and G.Rossini Stabbat Mater and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at the Congregational Church Old Greenwhich in Connecticut and at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in NYC. In summer 2011 she performed with Glykeria, Costas Makedonas and Gerasimos Andreatos in their summer concert dedicated to Manos Loizos.

Among the roles in her repertoire are Zerlina and Susanna by Mozart, Mimi, Musetta, Liu, Lauretta by Puccini, Serpina by Pergolesi and Juiliette by Gounod.

She is keen to point out that everything she listens to directs her musical development in some way. However, she would certainly include Maria Callas, Kristin Chenoweth,Sarah Brightman, Montserrat Caballe, Emma Chaplin, Diana Damrau, Renne Fleming and Barbara Streisand amongst her biggest influences. The development of her unique style is the result of an amalgamation of her classical music influences and her native folk sound.
